There is no one citation style used for theses and dissertations, since every one is different in content and length. Consult with your supervisor as to what style is preferred or most appropriate for your work.
Once you've chosen a citation style, consider signing up for a citation manager such as Zotero, Mendeley, or EndNote. It will help you to keep your citations organized and properly formatted.
