The BMO Financial Group Health Sciences Library at Lakeridge Health welcomes Ontario Tech placement students. Our goal is to support you in a successful placement experience – one combining your academic knowledge as applied to your practice.

Ontario Tech students placed at the Oshawa site have access to a physical library space that includes computers, study space, printer and photocopier. The library is in the LHEARN Centre, B1 level and is staffed Monday to Friday (0800 – 1700). After hours, students can show their student photo ID to Security for entry. All computers at every Lakeridge site have virtual access to library services and resources including web access to books, journals, databases, and point-of-care tools such as LexiComp and eCPS (drug information) and UpToDate (reviews for 10,000 medical conditions).

As a clinical library, the resources on offer support practicing clinicians with tools to support patient care. Evidence-based resources to support decision-making, assist best practice and maintain professional knowledge and skills in health care include:

• LexiComp: an online drug database offering modules for interactions, calculations, I.V. compatibility, toxicology and Patient Education information (available in 19 languages for drugs and 2 languages for medical conditions/procedures).
• RxTx: Canadian online drug resource that replicates the print CPS (Compendium of Pharmaceuticals and Specialties).
• UpToDate: provides reviews for 10,000 medical conditions with respect to etiology, diagnosis, progression and treatment.

The above resources are only available from onsite at Lakeridge Health. Electronic resources such as eBooks and databases (OVID, EBSCO, Proquest) are available from offsite with a username and password.
