Course Readings - Student Access

Course Reserves

If there is a book you would like your class to read, the library copy may be in high demand. We can put books on reserve (3 hour, 1 day, or 3 day loans) at your request.
If we don't have a copy of the book you assigned, let us know; we may be able to purchase a copy.

Articles in Blackboard or on a Class Website

We can help you find permanent links for non-open access journal articles available in Library databases. The links can then be posted to Blackboard or a class website. Here's an example of what a permanent article link from one database looks like:

Book Chapters

Copyright law allows you to scan and post up to 10% or one chapter of a book in a password-protected learning management system. If there is a book chapter you would like to use, we may have a physical copy or be able to borrow a copy from another university.

Copyright Help

Do you have copyright questions associated with use of articles, videos, images, or other materials? The Library's two copyright staff members, Kate Gibbings and Janet Martin, can provide advice and support. Email copyright@uoit.ca with questions and check out the Copyright Guide.

The Is Permission Needed? flowchart also provides a good visual introduction to the kinds of questions you can ask yourself about use of materials.
