Major Databases

The resources listed here primarily contain journal, newspaper and magazine articles. Additionally, some include materials such as book reviews, e-books and conference proceedings. The databases with 'Canadian' or a 'C' in the title (e.g. CBCA or CPI-Q) tend to have more Canadian content.

The premier source for peer-reviewed, full-text articles from the world's leading journals and reference sources. Extensive coverage of the sciences, technology, medicine, the arts, theology, literature and other subjects - authoritative and comprehensive. Millions of articles available in both PDF and HTML full-text with no restrictions; updated daily.

This multi-disciplinary database provides full text for more than 4,600 journals, including full text for nearly 3,900 peer-reviewed titles. PDF backfiles to 1975 or further are available for well over one hundred journals, and searchable cited references are provided for more than 1,000 titles.

Provides full text for 150 Canadian and 400 international (U.S. and U.K) periodicals. Content also includes reference books, biographies and an image collection.

Canada’s most comprehensive and diverse full-text online database. Broad coverage from a Canadian perspective spans agriculture, business and economics, education, government and politics, health sciences, history, literature, medical sciences, social sciences, and many more subject areas.

Provides indexing for approximately 700 Canadian periodicals with 240 available in full-text. Content includes news, biographies, company profiles and historical information.

Google Scholar
Google Scholar is a freely available search engine that links to a selection of resources from the full Google database and other information. Emphasizes scholarly information. Google Scholar searches for information from all subject areas, and is particularly strong in sciences and technology. Information is drawn from academic publishers, professional societies, preprint repositories and universities. The 'cited by' links are especially useful for items not listed in the Web of Science, or Scopus databases.
JSTOR
Multidisciplinary database of over 450 full text e-journals from the very first issue of a journal to those published within the last 3-5 years i.e. no current volumes. JSTOR or Journal Storage is an archival database.

Intended specifically for public libraries, this database provides indexing and abstracts for more than 2,300 publications, 1,200 of which are available in full text. Covers general interest topics such as business, consumer health, general science and culture.
