What is Science Literacy?

Science Literacy is the ability to know and understand basic scientific concepts and processes and to use this knowledge to make informed personal decisions and better participate in the civic, cultural, and economic affairs of daily life.

 

What Science Literacy can do for you

Science has a profound impact on our society, but it's not always easy to understand how deeply it affects our everyday lives.

By developing your science literacy skills, you will be able to:

  • better understand and engage in social discussion on scientific conclusions being reported in the news
  • identify the scientific issues that underly national and local decision-making
  • evaluate the quality of scientific information and the methods behind it
  • develop the capacity to pose and evaluate arguments based on the evidence presented to yo
